So a reasonable question might be, why another Christian blog? Are there not hundreds if not thousands of sites out there written by ministers and pastors and theologians (much more qualified than me) tapping out great words of wisdom and admonition for any and all seekers of religious knowledge and teaching? Is there room or a pressing need for a layperson to add his few pennies to the mix?
Well in a sense you have answered your own question because you are reading this. But to be fair your time is valuable and you may be just a dutiful relative or friend who said they would visit the site to stop my nagging at them to go look at it! If you are an unsolicited visitor, however, – yippee! I hope you get some value from the site and encouragement to look at your life from another perspective. Confront yourself, draw out those thoughts you just keep pushing back against. Stop long enough to actually ask THOSE questions that you never want to ask. What is it all about? What has the collective conscience of all Man always pondered? Get past the philosophers for a moment and just ask yourself. Use your own conscious as the guide. Then get curious, read sites like this to find someone on a similar wavelength then follow your heart/spirit. The God I follow promises to seek out the seekers, so don’t worry He will find you if you are genuinely looking for Him. It took me decades, it could take you days. Or, through death, you will know one way or another, sorry but it is about absolutes as well. Relativism has no place in Faith.
Because I am a Christian it is part of my commission to “Go out into the World and spread the Gospel of the Good News of this man Jesus whom the Bible is so focused on. The internet is the City Gate in the modern world and there is plenty of room for more voices. One of the Web’s special qualities is that all the power is with the seeker of knowledge. Unlike those well dressed young men that ride bikes and politely knock on your door to offer you salvation through their faith system, you do not feel obligated or annoyed (because they came at a bad moment) nor awkward or embarrassed because you were not really thinking about those ‘Big’ questions of life right now – you just want to chill out in your own space. With the internet, it is your choice if you press Backspace or press Enter. Nobody will ever know.
So in this non-confrontational setting, there are millions of surfers/seekers who will be drawn to sites that resonate with their worldviews and life’s experiences and their level of curiosity and interest. Some may stop by here like you have. You will not be looking for some heavy doctrine or theological teaching. You will not be ready to join a church or be baptised necessarily either. You will be looking for real life experiences and commentary that reflect where you are or what you understand about “life, the universe and, you know…everything”. My thoughts and questions might trigger yours and that is enough. Your comments and critiques might open my eyes to new ways of understanding and living my faith.
The other reason for another Christian blog is that Christians are instructed to meet together around God’s word. The World Wide Web provides an international platform to do that. In its original setting Christians would have met physically at someone’s house and that is the ideal still today – in a bible study group. Modern social media just adds another dimension to that directive to gather with the added bonus of drawing upon Christians from every corner of the Globe to share their stories of faith and encouragement with their own culteral and ethnic personality.
This site, and many other amateur Christian blog sites, provide the variety and diversity of seekers and tyre kickers of all stripes, colours and flavours. As time goes by I will provide links and reviews of sister sites that I find useful and relevant. As your interest in spiritual matters develops, formal Christian resources that have been collated will be available for reference.
It will not be me that provides the catalyst or spark for further enquiry but your own yearning and quest for spiritual knowledge that is hard-wired into every one of us.
So yes another Christian blog. Unique in that it’s my perspective and influenced by my own authentic Christian journey over this past 50+ years. I should note that most of that 50 years was travelling in the wrong direction trying to work my own religion out. It took a long time to exhaust all my options. Then, there was the truth, it had been shadowing me all that time.
